Enter your known information such as your engines rated "WOT" (wide open throttle)(max rpm), prop pitch, gear ratio (this can be obtained from your owners manual), present speed (when calculating slip). The second box next to engine rpm is prop shaft rpm. "Table" Use the table to view different ratios at the same time. "Prop - What if" Here you can see what a horse power change will do for you. You can also see the horsepower to weight ratio reflection on speed. You will notice a slight difference in speeds between these two calculations. Many different variables complicate these formulas. We would suggest you take a average speed between the two answers. This is for information only and may not be entirely accurate. Definition SLIP- difference between theoretical and actual. Excessive slip would indicate problems in application,ex- prop damage, improper engine installation. (.9 is low slip, .2 is high slip) We hope you enjoy playing out the different scenarios, and it assists you in making decisions about props sizes and horsepower changes to your boating fun.
