HydroStream Torpedo

COMMENTS:

The Torpedo "tube-bottom" V-King was built in 1981 and was the only one made.  It was built to compete at the 1st Powerboat Magazine Shoot-Out in St. Louis in August 1981.  It did very well with a modified 235 Evinrude (2nd to Stoker, Ron Baker driving, 92 mph radar run).

To make this hull, HydroStream laid large PVC tubing in the mold to create the tunnels. According to Ron Baker, it was fast but did not handle very well.  He also said it was their first step with air entrapment on a production hull.  It acted like a solid V-bottom in a straight line but didn't do very well in the corners or in the rough.
