AquaSport Cat Hull needs Speed Hey Randy, I ran across your site and found a lot of interesting
information. Although I am not a racer I am interested in ways to
increase the speed of my boat. It is a 16' AquaSport cat hull with a
2003 Merc 90. The prop is a Stilletto 19p I believe.
Currently I get just about 30 mph at 5400 rpms and would like to get in
the upper 30's or, if possible, 40+. I know that increasing the rpms
is one way but I don't know a whole lot about outboard engines!!
What are your recommendations? Unfortunately
to get you to the 40 mph mark would probably take a 135 hp engine. There
just is no cost effective way to gain that much performance. Unless you
lightened the boat up a few hundred pounds (like 4-500 lbs.) Cat hulls
love horsepower – they like it in excess.
Please submit whatever questions you have to IHRTechTalk@yahoo.com. All questions and answers selected will be displayed on this page as they come in. Note: though all boaters are welcome, priority may be given to I.H.R. members. Randy can not be held responsible for any advice given. Though his information and expertise is second to none, he has no control over what you do with your boat. It is up to you to boat safely and act responsibly, and his advice is only to be used as a guidance for your high performance boat/motor of which you are the one responsible for the risks involved. Thanks,
