Cable Steering Greetings
- I
have a cable and pulley steering system on my 17' runabout. Do you know a
site that lists how to re-string the cable so it will work properly? As
for now, the cables, pulleys, steering wheel w/hub and springs are
all there, just completely undone. I just don't know how to re-string it. Any
help would be appreciated. Oh,
by the way. The boat is set up so that both cables coming off the spool go
down the right side of the boat. I did see a setup where the cables
went back to the motor with one cable on one side and the other on the
other side, but that wouldn't work on my boat since a cable would have to
cut right across the walkway to do it. So please consider this when
answering me. Be
happy!
Larry, Check
the local libraries for older boat rigging books. They will have some
diagrams with the setup you describe. Most BIA manuals with that info
would have to be from the 60's & 70's for that stuff. Check with an
old established dealer, as he may have some of those old manuals.
Please submit whatever questions you have to IHRTechTalk@yahoo.com. All questions and answers selected will be displayed on this page as they come in. Note: though all boaters are welcome, priority may be given to I.H.R. members. Randy can not be held responsible for any advice given. Though his information and expertise is second to none, he has no control over what you do with your boat. It is up to you to boat safely and act responsibly, and his advice is only to be used as a guidance for your high performance boat/motor of which you are the one responsible for the risks involved. Thanks,
