GT175 Mods

Hi there, 

I have a GT175 (89 model) on a Basshawk bass boat. Hull weight is 1200 pounds, and it is rated for 175hp. I was wondering what I could do to perk up the power output of the motor a little, and what sort of prop you would recommend for it. Right now it has a 25 pitch shooter 4 blade, on a 6 inch set back plate. It has transom wedges on the top of the plate between it and the engine. 

I would also like to know what the safe upper limit is on rpm’s for this engine, I have not had much success on the internet finding spec’s. 

I asked on a bass boat forum, but they don’t support modding engines.

The engine has a 5800 Rev limit that is part of the ignition system. Getting more power on that engine is very expensive and it doesn’t like today’s fuels very much. As you try to get more power (by compression increases, etc.) the tolerance is gone and it will fail unless race fuels are used.
