'69 Johnson 115 Ignition
Hello:
I have a 1969 Johnson 115 hp outboard. It will start and stay
running in the bucket, however, when put in the lake it will start then
stall. 2 occurrences happened when running at full throttle engine
just cut off, (no sputter, no hesitation) just died. It restarted
then stalled again at idle. I removed the safety circuit and jumped
terminals 7 and 9 bypassing circuit per manuals suggestion. In the bucket,
engine idled for more then 45 minutes, when put into the water it had the
same problem (stalled, crank but not start). I have replaced the
Stator with a 35 amp output with the same results. Any suggestions?
Thanks
John
John,
How is the compression? The description sounds like it is seizing. The old
V-4's will stick a piston and then run afterward. It gets worse with each
occurrence. If that is ok, I would look at the power pack. It could have a
heat breakdown failure.
