Ignition Problems I have a 1989 Johnson 150 the problems I have are when the
boat is cold it runs great, but after you run it for awhile and only when
you stop for a while like fishing, when you start back up the boat has no
power. Has no torque to get back on plane, sometimes if you run it long
enough it will plane out and eventually gain all power back and run good
again but other times it doesn't. I was told it could be the stator, if so
how can this be tested. Please help. JIM
Jim, Sounds
like your problem could be a stator. There are specific voltage readings
for this and should only be tested by a service tech. The outputs are
quite high and if done wrong they can knock you on your a#s. Don't over
look the powerpack (cdi box). You have one for each bank and one could be
breaking down from heat and causing the failure you describe. I'd bet on
the powerpack as we do several a year at GPI.
