Prop for L'il Hustler IHR Tech talk, I recently purchased one of the tunnel
hull 11'6" hustlers with a 4cyl classic merc50. Which for some reason
is a 45 HP? It has a manual jack plate that sets
the motor back about 6" and up about 4". How do I go about
making a prop choice? I was having problems getting the boat to plane
until I added a hydrofoil, I know you don't like them but it does at least
plane out now. Maybe with the correct prop it wouldn't
need the foil, the current prop looks like a stock aluminum, but who
knows? Thanks, Phil, On
that boat, the foil is almost needed just to plane off, like you say. We
ran a few of these, but for now have some decent cup put in your aluminum
prop. This will give you a baseline to move to a better solution. I would
expect to run a 14 or 15 pitch, but you can cup your prop even if it is a
13 and it will improve a lot. Hope this moves you in the right direction.
