2000 Mercury 200 Mods Looking for Best advice to improve my engine's performance. Should I change pistons and rings when doing 35cc heads, reeds, and tuner? My boat is a 2000 TR-20 Triton with a 200EFI Mercury and has approximately 120hrs. I want to be able to run/out run with the 225's but reliability is concern also. I previously did similar mods on a 1992 150XR6 and the engine seemed to loose low end power (G-force tuner & 35 cc heads, Specialty service cross drilled manifold, solid eng mount, ported reed cages and boysen reeds). The
heads will help some. The tuner will hurt your entire low end …
important on a boat of the type you are driving. The only way you will run
with the 225’s is to port the motor to make such power. You will see a
7-8 hp with all the mods you listed. Your boat will not give but a couple
of mph from that. I mod 200’s all the time and when properly done, they
will make 250+ hp pretty easy. Bolt on parts will not do it though.
Please submit whatever questions you have to IHRTechTalk@yahoo.com. All questions and answers selected will be displayed on this page as they come in. Note: though all boaters are welcome, priority may be given to I.H.R. members. Randy can not be held responsible for any advice given. Though his information and expertise is second to none, he has no control over what you do with your boat. It is up to you to boat safely and act responsibly, and his advice is only to be used as a guidance for your high performance boat/motor of which you are the one responsible for the risks involved. Thanks,
