Ranger/Yamaha 200 Pro V
Randy,
I own a 1994 Ranger 492VS with a 200 Pro V. I read one of your posts
stating you have gotten older Rangers to run 70's. Everything on the boat
is stock and I was wondering what kind of mods I can do to the engine/boat
without spending thousands of dollars that might get a few more mph
faster. I was told there is a carb. mod that will gain approx. 25 horse,
is this true? Any info would be great.
Thank you,
Allen
Allen,
It's true, there is some power to be had from your 200. The carbs
are already as big as possible. The same as the 225, the 200 uses the pro
V150 tuner and a change to the 225 excel pipe is worth a few horse.
Mostly, we try to make them like the 225 (they are only 10-12 horse apart)
and work on jackplate/prop setup. I have several 492's running in the low
70's, but need more info. on your current setup to make any calls on the
next step. Hi-compression heads are a no-no from a reliability standpoint
with "lake" gas.
