V-King/V4 Prop Suggestions

Hi Randy. I wonder if you could make a propping suggestion for my rig. I just took off a fried (don’t ask) 2.4 200 Merc and installed a 93 Johnson 120 looper. It is mounted on a Bob’s hydraulic jack. I tried a couple of props my buddies had for this engine but I wasn’t happy with any of them. Here’s what I tried: 13 X 23 SRX, no hole shot at all and we had to lean over the windshield to plane off, but once it was up it turned 5800 and carried the bow pretty good. I also tried a 13 X 19 through hub steel prop of unknown make. I had to have the jack plate all the way down for this one. Good hole shot, even with 4 people, but it won’t carry the bow at all and revs about 6000. I have a 13 X 17 aluminum but I don’t see any point in trying this one at all. What would you suggest for this set-up. I’m sure I’m not the first guy with a V4 on a V-King.

Try and find a 22 Yamaha drag prop and have it rehubbed with OMC splines. Turbo makes a 22 four blade prop that might be a good ride also. If the 23 SRX had a lot of leading edge roll it could be made to work pretty good. Any of these combo's would be the ticket to good overall performance. See which you can get and try them out. Also call Turbo and see if they have anything new that I don't know about.
