Vector Motor Selection
Hello,
I currently have a Vector with a 150HP Merc on it. But I am in need of
purchasing another engine for it. What specifications should I be looking
for? I am interested in a Merc with 145HP or less. I wasn't sure if I need
a short shaft with low water pickup?
What size prop? etc. I look forward to your answer. Have a great
day! Monique
Monique,
Out of all the small below 150 hp motors I've run on a Vector, my
favorites were the 130 and 115 hp Yamahas. You could bolt a 130
Yamaha and 26 pitch drag propeller on the Vector and it would go 70+
immediately. Most everybody else's small motors are too heavy or
have the wrong gearcase or some other problem. The 115 OMC loopers
are also a good choice. This motor should run very similar to the
115 Yamaha. Any of these do not need any gearcase mods. Try to
locate 24 or 26 Yamaha drag propeller as the best overall choice.
Hope this puts you in the right direction.
Randy
