Vegas XT/Johnson H.O. 225 Prop
Hi Randy,
I recently bought a Vegas XT and I am running a 225 H.O Johnson with a
hydraulic lift. I am just in the stages of break in but the prop I have is
a 14.25 x 26" and it just seems to scream, I was wondering what prop
you would recommend for this combination?
Thanks,
Brian
Brian,
Not knowing what prop you are running, style and brand not size, I'm going
to give you a guess. The 225HO motors make a lot of power at a relatively
low RPM. The OMC raker props are much bigger in actual pitch than they are
stamped. I've measured a 26 raker at 29 inches under the cup, so you can
see they can spin pretty hard. If this is what you run the 26 will
probably work good. Expect rpm to be over 6k though. I think you will need
a 28 if you want some speed over 80. Any "good" 28 should work
as well as the new 4 blade hydromotive props. Before these props I found 4
blades disappointing in top speed. Try any prop you can get your hands on.
Your combo is new so the best prop will be one you try out of the blue.
Generally though, stay with round ear, chopper or raker style blades. With
a little more info I could get closer.
Randy
