Nose Cone for Voyager XT/Johnson 225 Hello
Randy. I
am trying to figure out the right nose cone if any is the right one for
me. What I am really after is the low water p/u feature. I am running
a 1994 X-stream Voyager XT with a 1994 Johnson Venom 225. The motor is a
fresh rebuild with 280 HP on Dyno. I am looking at the Hydromotive cone
because of the shape. Is the Hydromotive cone the best one for me ? or
should I avoid a cone on this hull, and modify the water p/u holes ? Thanks Hi
Lance, On
your rig more important than the nose cone is the skeg shape. The OMC
motors have a small skeg to begin with so a proper torque tab is a must. A
Bob's style or Hydromotive cone will work equally well but only if the tab
is installed and shaped properly. Consider sending the entire gearcase to
Bob's for cone and tab installation. The price is right as we can't do it
at our shop for that. More importantly, if the job is right the
performance will be good. If done wrong expect to LOSE speed and
performance over stock. I'm not saying you can't do the job, but it takes
way more time and patience than most people have. Unfortunately I can't
write what the proper shape should look like. And pictures hide the little
important features. Spend the $450 and have them do it, it is smart money
for the desired gain your looking for. Hope this answers you question in
some way.
